A New (to me) Resource
Thanks to Jonathan Danforth for the link to a book I hadn’t seen before The Daguerreotype: Nineteenth-Century Technology and Modern Science This book, which was apparently created originally as a study to aid in the conservation of antique Daguerreotypes, contains a wealth of information for the modern Daguerreotypist. Google has a partial electronic preview available that is worth looking at even if you don’t buy the book.
I learned quite a bit from even my initial perusal. Did you know for instance that Daguerreotypes do not fade like ordinary photographs when exposed to sunlight? I didn’t. Page 211 contains information about the non-fading nature of Daguerreotypes.
I plan to buy a copy soon.

I’m glad I could point you towards a nice resource. Books on the subject are few and far between. I like picking this one up from time to time just to flip through. I always come away with something useful.
After spending a bit more time on the Google preview, I went ahead and got a copy on Amazon. I’m looking forward to getting it.
For other readers interested in creating Daguerreotypes, please visit Jonathan’s site http://www.shinyphotos.com . He is an experienced Daguerreotype artist and has lots of great info on his site. I have spent a good bit of time there and plan to spend more.
